About

Dounan Living Room : Floral Interventions in Space, Unleashing the Vitality of Life

The Dounan Living Room is a key element of the Forest Renewal Initiative. By creating a leisure space where plants thrive, it offers a momentary escape for healing, relaxation, and deep breathing amid the urban landscape.

The architecture retains the original elongated layout—anchored on one end to a residential building and stretching toward Flora Plaza on the other—forming an open, sloped landscape. A sloped garden is designed near the residential side, allowing residents to step into a lush green space. On the opposite end, the structure gradually rises to face the historic water tower, culminating in a spiral staircase that links directly to the plaza, enriching the spatial experience for all.

The design envisions a moment of surprise and comfort: as people navigate the dense “concrete forest,” they suddenly encounter a walk-in garden. This unexpected bloom provides visual relief while the open garden stairway invites visitors to freely enter, explore, and linger—a quietly blooming “flower island,” gently welcoming every passerby.
